I am a human geographer specialised in Animal Geography and currently work as an Academy Research Fellow in the Laica project, in the School of History, Culture and Arts Studies at the University of Turku. I am also Adjunct Professor (Docent) of Animal Geography at the University of Eastern Finland.
My research interests include human–animal relationality, namely the experiences, cultural conceptions and practices of sharing life with companion animals, especially horses and pets. In my research I have investigated the spaces and places of encountering animals, interpretations of animal agency, welfare and death, emotions and care, knowledge and expertise, and eco-nationalism.
I also coordinate the Turku Human-Animal Studies Network (TYKE).
